ATA offers students interested in becoming a medical assistant an opportunity to earn a degree, as well. To earn an Associate’s degree, students will partake in a training course that takes 60 weeks, or about 15 months, to complete.

This is a relatively short length of time to earn a degree, as it can often take students at least two years.

At the same token, because you are earning a degree, school will cost more money to attend. Medical assistant school tuition in particular will be $$25,380, as well as an additional $3,147 for books and related supplies. Room and board, however, is not offered at Louisville’s ATA College.

Upon finishing your course, you will be eligible to sit for the Certified Medical Assistant examination—better known as a “CMA exam.”

Bluegrass Community and Technical College offers you a lot of different options, should you be interested in the medical assistant profession but are also interested in pursuing that passion via a handful of different options.

For example, students at BCTC in Lexington have the option to pursue an Associate’s degree in medical assisting.

That will be between 60 and 68 total credit hours.

If you’re interested in getting out of school a little faster, you can also go after a medical assistant diploma, which will be between 49 and 53 total credit hours.

The school also provides students with medical assistant technology certificates.

You can earn a certificate in three areas:


Medical Office Clinical Assistant, which is 19 total credit hours.
  2. Medical Office Administrative Assistant, which is 20 credit hours total
  3. Medical Office Insurance Billing and Coding, which is a total of 20 credit hours.

Henderson Community College offers students the ability to earn either a degree or certificate in medical assisting. Should you be interested in pursuing a degree, you will be required to complete 62 total credit hours of training and education.

A certificate requires less time, as just 20 total credit hours are required.

Certificates are also available.

A student can acquire a certificate in Medical Office Administrative Assisting, which will be 32 weeks in length total. A Medical Office Clinical Assistant certificate is also available, a course which takes 32 weeks to complete, as well.

Lastly, there’s Medical Office Insurance Billing and Coding, which requires 32 weeks as well. Each certificate program will cost you approximately $2,000 to $3,000 in tuition.

At Jefferson, you can earn a diploma in medical assisting. The diploma program costs $7,056 to attend, plus an additional $2,000 for textbooks and other supplies. The entire program runs about 64 weeks in length, which is just over a year.

You can also earn certificates in Medical Office Administrative Assistant, Medical Office Clinical Assistant, Medical Office Insurance Billing and Coding, and Medical Receptionist.   All four of these certificate programs will take 32 weeks to complete.

Under the Kentucky Community and Technical College System, Maysville Community and Tech College provides an opportunity for students to earn either a degree or a diploma. There are also a small handful of relevant certificates that can be earned, as well.

MedQuest College boasts that students can begin their new career in as little as ten months. That’s because the medical assistant program at this particular college is designed to be completed in 40 weeks. Following your graduation, you will earn a diploma.

Tuition and related fees will cost you approximately $11,000. That doesn’t include the price of things like textbooks and more, which will be an additional $1,000.

At MedTech College in Lexington, students can either earn an Associate’s degree or a diploma. To earn an Associate’s degree, you will be required to be in school for at least fifteen months. Tuition, books, and related fees will cost approximately $28,000.

To earn a diploma, you will need to stay in school for 36 weeks. Because school doesn’t last as long, the cost of the program won’t be as much. At Medtech, the cost of tuition, as well as the cost of textbooks, will run students approximately $15,000.

Midway offers you the chance to earn a degree, and the great thing about it is that they offer an online medical assistant training course. Or, if you so choose to participate in the course in a “blended” format.

The degree program will be 62 semester hours. Because you can take the course over the Internet, the school does offer some minimum hardware and software requirements, to make sure your computer can handle the tasks given to it by Midway’s course instructors.

These are requirements like having an operating system that’s adequate, having enough memory or CPU space, and running an efficient browser.

At Danville, you can earn an Associate’s degree. To do so, you will have to be in school for 19 months. Tuition will cost you $30,972, while textbooks are an additional $5,400.

Louisville’s National College allows students to enroll in diploma programs for Medical Office Assistant and Medical Billing and Coding. Still, if you want to apply for a medical assisting program, you will have to commit to the school’s Associate Degree program. 

The program provides small class sizes and peer mentoring at no additional cost. The program is designed to be completed in 19 months, and students are expected to pay $30,972 in tuition and fees.
