What’s great about the medical assistant program at Allied Health Institute is that they provide students with as many paths possible to get their education.
For example, students can choose to get a campus-based education and training, or do their medical assistant training online. You can also either opt to pursue a diploma or a degree.
The online diploma program will last ten months. The same is true for the campus-based training, and once the course concludes, you will then take part in an externship.

The medical assistant program at Broward College will last ten months, although some students may take longer to complete the program. To aid the learning process, and to give students all the attention they need, Broward keeps their medical assistant classes quite small (12 to 15 students).
At the conclusion of the program, students will be placed into a Practicum, where you will be able to get hands-on experience in a ambulatory health care setting located somewhere in Broward County.

Central Florida Institute in Orlando is quite interesting, because they offer two unique medical assistant related programs. The first is called a Medical Assistant with X-Ray program, and that lasts nine months. Day and night classes are available, but the length of the program changes depending on when you go.
In other words, if you prefer to take day classes, you will complete the program faster (38 weeks). If you are only able to take night classes, it will take you about a year to finish (53 weeks).
The second program offered here is called the Medical Assistant with Cardiovascular Technology program. The length of this program is identical to the X-Ray program (full time students can complete it in nine months), and at the program’s conclusion, students will earn a diploma.
- Central Florida Institute – Palm Harbor

Despite this being the same school (just a different campus), the Palm Harbor CFI campus only provides one medical assistant program to students: the Medical Assistant with Cardiovascular program.
In this program, you will learn how to break down cardiac rhythms, learn about heart monitoring in different venues (hospital setting versus monitoring someone at home who has a pacemaker, for example. In the second term, you will begin learning about 12 lead EKG interpretation and find out how to understand what part of the heart you are viewing. In your final term, you will learn a lot about cardiovascular pharmacology, so that you can best understand the drugs patients require when they are having a heart attack.
You will also get additional training in anticoagulation therapy, as well.
Graduates of CFI’s medical assistant program have a lot of unique options due to their training, so they have the knowledge, training, and flexibility to work in family practices, hospitals, VA, doctor’s offices, Lasik/cataract institutes and much more.
- Community Technical and Adult Education – Ocala, FL
At the conclusion of the program at CTAE, students will receive a Certificate of Completion in Medical Assisting. Classes meet Monday through Thursday, and the entire course can be finished in 43 weeks (1,300 hours).
Tuition is $3,796, with an additional lab fee ($430), books and supplies charge ($605), and miscellaneous fees ($371.40).
At classes will be held at CTAE Brewster Hall.

The cost of the program itself is $4,213.50, which includes the additional fees for things like books and labs. In fact, in regards to textbooks, you will be asked to purchase a book entitled The Professional Medical Assistant. This book is published by F.A. Davis Company.
The course itself is 15 months long.
As far as the outlook for medical assistants in Florida, at least pertaining to salary, graduates can expect to earn between $11 and $15 per hour (according to the Florida Agency for Workforce Innovation)

- Daytona State College – Daytona Beach, FL
Tuition for this program will cost students just over $3,600. That figure doesn’t include additional fees for items like books, lab supplies, background checks, and the certification exam.
You can, however, apply for state and federal financial aid. To do so, you’ll want to fill out a FAFSA form.
- Everest University – Brandon Campus – Tampa, FL
The medical assistant program at Brandon will cost you $16,000 for tuition, as well as an additional $1,990 for books and other supplies. You will receive a certificate upon successful completion of the 41 week long program.
Everest University’s program is designed to last about 41 weeks in length, which seems to be roughly the average for a medical assistant program (assuming you’re in a diploma program).
The Largo campus offers students the opportunity to graduate with a diploma in Medical Assisting (41 weeks), Medical Administrative Assisting (31 weeks), or Medical Insurance Billing and Coding ($33 weeks).
You can expect to pay $16,450 for the medical assisting program located in Melbourne, Florida. Like the other programs located at Everest University, students are able to complete this diploma program in 41 weeks. Though it may take some students longer to successfully finish the program.
This North Orlando campus features a forty-one week long medical assistant program. You can expect to pay over $16,000 for to attend this program, although financial aid may indeed be available.
This is a program that lasts about 41 weeks in length, though it could take some individuals longer to complete.
The Hillsborough Campus, like all of the Everest University campuses that offer medical assistant training to students in Florida, is an CAHEEP accredited program.
The Tampa campus here is flexible to its students, as well, offering night classes to those that passionately want to become a medical assistant, but are unable to attend the programs’ classes during he daytime due to other life-related commitments.

Hodges provides students with a medical assisting program that, at its conclusion, will earn students an Associate’s degree. Afterward, you will be eligible to sit for the Certified Medical Assistant examination.
It terms of how much the program will cost, basic tuition for all undergrad credit hour classes is $510.00 per credit hour.

At Indian River State College, your program will consist of 1,300 clock hours. And at the end of the course, you will earn a certificate.

At Keiser, you can earn an Associate’s degree, but only after you have clocked 60.5 credit hours. Your courses will involve learning about Radiography, Medical Office Management, Medical Terminology, and Anatomy and Physiology. At the conclusion of the program, you will be involved in an externship, where you will be able to put your training into practical, hands-on use. Your externship will be supervised.

Not only will you learn about Electronic Health Record, but on the X-Ray side of things, you will graduate with a strong understanding of X-Ray fundamentals that includes X-ray exposure, X-Ray circuits, and film processing.
- Lively Technical Center – Tallahassee, FL
If you are a Florida resident, than you tuition cost at Lively Tech Center will be $3,796. In addition, you will also have to pay several hundred dollars more for items like lab fees, books, registration fees and more.
In total, the program will last 1300 hours.
The program also has what’s called Distance Learning, or Hybrid Learning.
- Lorenzo Walker Institute of Technology – Naples, FL
This accredited program will allow you to sit for the CMA examination at its conclusion. In total, the program itself is 1300 hours, and it will cost students $4,994 to enroll.
- Manatee Technical Institute – Bradenton, FL
Full-time students will attend the program at Manatee Tech Institute Monday through Friday. The approximate cost for program is $5950. In total, it will take students about 13 months to complete the program.
- McFatter Technical Center – Davie, FL
This full-time program requires 1300 hours of training and education, and will take ten months to complete. If you are a Florida resident, it will cost you just under $4,000 to attend this medical assisting program. As far as certifications go, at the conclusion of the program, you will be eligible to sit for the CMA or RMA examinations.
- Palm Beach State College – Lake Worth, FL
Offered at the Lake Worth campus, the program will take 13 months to complete, or 1300 hours.
At you successfully complete the program, you will be allowed to apply for jobs in hospitals, physician offices, outpatient clinics, emergency care and more.
There are a handful of admission requirements, though. One requirement is that you must take a TABE examination. Second, it’s required that you attend an information session pertaining to medical assisting provided by the school.
Upon graduation, you will receive a certificate.

Students here are offered a one-year certificate program that will last 1320 hours. The program itself will cost just over $5900. That cost includes tuition, as well as book, supplies and uniforms.

Upon graduation, you will be eligible to sit for either the CMA exam, or the RMA exam. And although certification or registration is not required to land a medical assistant job, it’s encouraged because it will may help you get a leg up in a very competitive job market.

The Winter Park Tech campus at OPCS Career Tech Education features a medical assisting program that lasts 1300. And upon completing the program, students who are enrolled in the Associate’s of Applied Science degree program will be awarded credits at Valencia Community College for Medical Information Coder/Biller Administration and Medical Office Administration.
And although it’s not mandatory, students who graduate are also eligible to sit for the AAMA’s Certified Medical Assistant examination.
